St. Matthew’s Church

Vestry Meeting Minutes

January 11, 2005

Present:  Rev. Elizabeth Miller, Roger Stiles, Bonnie Fuller, David Shepherd, Greg Wehrwein, Kay O’Brien, Jon Nelson, Tim Sivret, Gloria Anderson, and Adam Fisher

Meeting opened at 7:10 PM with a prayer led by Rev. Miller.

Rev. Miller began the meeting by reminding members that annual reports were due.  The vestry discussed the upcoming annual meeting and the number of vacancies on the vestry.

Roger Stiles made a motion to move the date of annual meeting.  The original date was very inconvenient for many in the parish and following a brief discussion on dates, the vestry voted to change the meeting date to February 13.

Vestry retreat will be scheduled following election of new members.

Rev. Miller handed out a letter of agreement outlining the terms of her employment for the coming year.  Vestry members reviewed and voted to sign the document.

Vestry minutes read and approved with minor changes.

Treasurer’s Report

Financial statements for the month were distributed.  A mistake in the statement concerning office supplies skewed some of the numbers.  Vestry discussed the budget for the search committee.  The current budget is $5,000, but may not be enough to cover the cost of moving expenses for the new rector.  Kay O’Brien made a motion to increase the amount to $7,500 and the vestry voted in support of the motion.

Pledges for 2005 look pretty good.  St. Matthew’s has some new pledgers, a few increased pledges, and only lost a few pledgers over the course of the year.

Treasurer’s report was accepted with changes.

Junior Warden’s Report

Missing window cranks were replaced.

Unfinished business:

  • Dishwasher situation is still unresolved.  Greg has hounded Mr. Hubbard to fix it.  Vestry has approved purchase of new dishwasher if needed.
  • Shut-offs for sacristy.
  • Floor seam in parish hall.

Jon Nelson noted that the flood lights didn’t seem to be working right.  It was noted that he should try turning on the light switch.

Rector’s Report

Rev. Miller has been busier than she hoped she would be.  December was a hectic month with demands between the two churches and a busy concert schedule.  She visited with shut-ins during the holidays and has been meeting with the confirmation class.  She was very pleased with the way the pageant came together.

Rev. Miller asked if it would be okay to have a group spend part of an upcoming weekend in the church as they prepare for a diocesan teen event.  Meetings are scheduled Friday and Saturday and the group will be attending church service on Sunday.

Rev. Miller noted that there may be an opportunity for an area bible study school next summer.  Someone recently approached her about using St. Mark’s facilities for that purpose.

Discernment/Search Committee

Profiles are complete and have gone to print.  The group is meeting again next week.  We haven’t heard if any individuals have applied to the diocese for the position.

ECW

Gloria discussed some of the upcoming Lenten suppers.  The scheduling has not been finalized for the suppers yet – need to coordinate between the two churches on who is responsible for each.

Next meeting will be in March.  The group may invite the director of Bread of Life ministries to hear about their services.

Old Business

  • Tim Sivret will work with Adam Fisher on a webpage for the church.

Meeting adjourned with prayer by Rev. Miller at 8:30 PM

Next Meeting Next vestry meeting will be held on February 8 at 7:00 PM.  Note: There is currently discussion of St. Matthew’s youth holding a pancake supper that evening.
